7 Things to Do in Lake Harmony (And Where to Stay)

I’ve spent enough time in Lake Harmony to know it’s one of those rare Pocono Mountain gems that delivers year-round, whether you’re craving lakeside summer days or snowy winter weekends. Tucked between Big Boulder and Jack Frost ski areas, this little community punches way above its weight when it comes to outdoor fun and pure relaxation. Here’s my tried-and-true guide to making the most of your visit.

1. Lake Harmony Itself – The Main Attraction

The 1,200-acre lake is why we’re all here, honestly. Summer means pontoon boat rentals, kayaking, and stand-up paddleboarding. I always recommend getting out on the water early morning—around 7 or 8 AM—when it’s glassy smooth and you’ve got the whole lake practically to yourself. Lake Harmony Boats & Watersports on Route 903 has everything you need for rentals. Pro tip: weekdays are infinitely less crowded than weekends in July and August.

2. Big Boulder Ski Area

When snow flies, Big Boulder becomes the heart of winter action. It’s perfect for families and intermediate skiers—less intimidating than some of the bigger Pocono resorts, but with solid terrain and great night skiing. They typically open mid-December through mid-March, weather permitting. The night skiing scene here is genuinely fun, especially Friday and Saturday evenings when the slopes are lit and the vibe is energetic. Skip the cafeteria burger and grab something at Nick’s Lake House afterward instead.

3. Boulder Lake for a Quieter Experience

Just across the street from Lake Harmony proper, Boulder Lake offers a mellower, less motorized alternative. This is where I send friends who want to paddleboard or fish without dodging pontoons and jet skis. It’s stocked with bass and pickerel if you’re into fishing. There’s limited public access, but it’s worth finding your way to the water if you’re staying nearby and want that peaceful morning paddle I mentioned earlier.

4. Hickory Run State Park

About 15 minutes down Route 534, Hickory Run is an absolute must for hikers. The Boulder Field—a National Natural Landmark—is unlike anything else you’ll see in Pennsylvania: 16,500 years of geological history spread across a massive field of rocks. The hike to reach it is easy and family-friendly, about 3.5 miles round trip. Go in early fall when the leaves are turning, and you’ll understand why people keep coming back to the Poconos. The park also has Sand Spring Lake for swimming in summer.

5. Split Rock Resort

Even if you’re not staying here, Split Rock’s H2Oooohh! Indoor Waterpark is open to day guests and perfect for families with kids who’ve burned through their outdoor energy. The indoor/outdoor pools and slides are legitimately fun, and honestly, it’s a lifesaver on those rainy Pocono afternoons. Check their website for day pass availability—they do limit capacity, especially on weekends and holidays.

6. Nick’s Lake House

For dining, Nick’s is the consensus favorite. Right on the lake with a fantastic outdoor deck, it’s where you go for elevated pub food and cold drinks with a view. The crab-stuffed shrimp and their burgers are standouts. Sunset reservations book fast in summer, so call ahead. It’s also one of the few spots within walking distance if you’re staying lakeside, which matters after a few cocktails.

7. Jim Thorpe – A Quick Day Trip

Twenty minutes south, Jim Thorpe feels like you’ve stepped into a Victorian postcard. The historic downtown is packed with antique shops, cafés, and the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway. I love spending a morning biking the Lehigh Gorge Trail (rentals available right in town) and then poking around the shops and grabbing lunch at Molly Maguire’s Pub. It’s the perfect counterpoint to lake days—a little culture, a little history, and excellent pierogies.

Hideaway Between Lakes is exactly that—a thoughtfully designed property that gives you the privacy and comfort of your own space with all the high-end amenities you’d expect. Perfectly positioned for lake access and mountain adventures, it’s the kind of home base that makes you want to extend your stay.
